Well they're evil... they've been created so you don't like them...
And i believe my favorite character in the whole movies is Boromir...
So cool the guy... And if you read the book, he is in fact less "sauvage"... But even in the movies, he has played an extremely great role... without his actions, aragorn would have followed frodo... Merry and pip would surely have died...

And in the book, it is said that he saved Osgiliath twice from orcs... there is an interesting scene in the extended edition about that...

Arrrggghh!!! Spoiler!!! And that makes me want to watch the extended edition even more!

well, O$!R!5, i know that this dates from some time back but i just wanted to ask: have you ever read 'the silmarillion'? that's elf history and you get to know all about them; how they were created, who led them, who were their kings...you get to know everything. in fact, you even get to know about the very creation of middle earth and the gods and all the rest (how dwarves were created and how and why their enemity with elves started, how the elves are born and how they die, illuvatar-the supreme god and the valar...ok,ok, i'll stop, else i'll just end up telling you all that's in the book!!!). but really, i do think that should definitely change your view of elves....

oh, yes! i especially like the bit where eowyn kills the doomed king...girl power, yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of my favourite female characters...

You read the Silmarillion too!? Wow, you should meet a friend of mine then, she's among the rare girls who have read all, and I mean ALL, of Tolkien's books on Middle-Earth! In fact, she's a member of CC but hasn't posted yet.

oh, actually i managed to get to half of it but i really did not get time to read the rest...i am going to borrow that book during end of year holidays cause just now, i've got to focus on hsc... but i am really looking forward to read it...and the hobbit...and the trilogy....and all that's tolkien.......i just love tolkien's style. that's really good literature. wish we could study that at school...

anybody read tolkien's 'the hobbit'??

I read the trilogy...but gave up halfway... Tolkien's style is a bit too heavy for me.. He has the strange habit of taking 3 whole pages to describe the simplest of trees or path ; that caused me to fall asleep on the book countless times!
I wonder how he came to be friends with Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia)! Their styles are completely different if not opposite!

yes, indeed...the description is heavy but the story's exciting...i really enjoyed it. read some of the chronicles of narnia too...boy, that's such light reading!!!!

Well, youmight not believe me but i've read nearly all the books of Tolkien...
The lord of the rings, the hobbit, the similarions( the most difficult book to read as the story happens over thyousands of years and thus thousands of characters are involved...
I've also read some of the books of the "Christopher tolkien books..."

well, it is quite interesting as it kind of help you understand more about the Lord of the Rings....
The language is rather simple and the story is captivating... i suggest reading it...

oh, i have read the hobbit...loved it. it was an almost enid blyton style...but better yet. i can get the silmarillion. i only need the books of lost tales...dunno how i could get them from you though.

Difficult to say who's the best... Frodo carries the burden of the ring throughout the story - one has to be strong both mentally, physically and in the heart in order not to succumb to its lure.
Sam, is Frodo's loyal friend, providing ,especially, mental support to Frodo in the hardest of times... and the main reason for which Frodo succeeded in his quest!
So who's the best? I'd say it's 50-50...

Indeed, i too think so... like Frodo would never have been able to destroy the ring without Sam...
However, i keep asking myself why, in the end Sam did not push frodo into the fire...
Thus, the ring would have been destroyed... in fact, he risked the whole fate of middle earth just because frodo was his friend...
And this goes for Elrond, in the flashbacks too...

The minds of man and other humanoids are so tangible and so easily corrupted...
Have you noticed how Gollum looked sooo happy while falling into the lava?! Me thinks the ring not only consumed his soul and mind but his brain also...

yup, agree with nataku...he was already lost. no return ticket for that guy. i really loved the way they made him in the film...looked real good!! and for frodo and sam...two half-men...put them together and you get a whole person, hahaha! can't say one's better than the other...that was team work.

i do wonder still why there is no women in the fellowship? well, i supposed it's because women are 'weaker'? or is it because of practical problems? can't be any of that.....

Or maybe because at the time Tolkien wrote this part, women were given little consideration... However Galadriel is quite a high figure in the story of Middle-Earth, as is Eowyn who killed the black thing called a king...

In fact, although not present in the fellowship, women(or at least female elf ) do have a huge role in the books...
In fact, this was quite rare at that time!
